  Children's Checkers Tournament
The Children's Checkers Tournament was held February 26th , 2005 in Weekes Branch Library, 27300 Patric Avenue, Hayward, California . Children from Kindergarten to 5th grade play in the morning from 10 AM - 12:30 PM and 6th to 9th play from 1PM until 4:30PM. There is no charge for the tournament. We
will award medals to the top three players in each of the three divisions.

  New England States & District One Open
The New England States & District One Open was held June 25th , 2005 in the home of Freeman Frank, 22 Floral Avenue, Malden, MA 02148 . Registration 10:30 am, play from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. 5 rounds of GAYP. Highest finishing N.E. resident will be the District One champion; the highest finishing player from each N.E. state will be the champion of that state.

  Wisconsin Chess & Checker Tournament
The Wisconsin Chess & Checker Tournament was held September 17th , 2005 in Memorial Building, Fennimore, Wisconsin . This is a Chess / Checker tournament on Sat. Sept. 17, 2005 at the Memorial Building in downtown Fennimore, WI. From 9:00 to 3:30, Swiss pairing chess and checkers are run the same. There will be trophies and prizes awarded and food will be available. We run one hour games. This is the third year for our chess tournament and second for checkers. Ed Ferber from Adell, WI. runs our Chess Tournament as he does many in the eastern part of the state. Any advice, or information you could share would be appriciated. 8th International Match Book is being planned by the ACF for the games that will be played. The book will include all the games, annotations, corrections, cooks, diagrams, match history, etc. There will also be photos and short bios of the players. It will be a hard bound book of very good quality. There will be 60 numbered copies for $100 each. The profit from the sale of the books will be used to make up for hosting the UK & Irish team.   South Carolina Open State Checker Tournament (Turbo & GAYP)
The South Carolina Open State Checker Tournament (Turbo & GAYP) was held June 16th - 18th , 2006 in Lander University in Greenwood, SC .

Friday, June 16th -- National Turbo Championship (Register 9 a.m., Centennial Hall, Play at 10 a.m.)
Saturday, June 17th -- State GAYP Tournament (Register 9 a.m., Centennial Hall, Play at 10 a.m.)
Sunday, June 18th -- State GAYP finals (begin at 10 a.m.)

  Edward A. Bruch 2006 Three-move National Tournament
The Edward A. Bruch 2006 Three-move National Tournament was held June 19th - 24th , 2006 in Traveler's Choice Hotel, Medina, Ohio . Referee for the National tournament will be Don Brattin and Leon Creek. Entry fees will be $50 (Master’s) / $30 (Majors) / $20 (Minors). ACF Membership required to enter all divisions, and may be paid at registration. Registration will take place Monday morning from 8:30-10:30 followed by a business meeting. All divisions will play eight four-game rounds. All divisions will play one round Monday. The Majors and Minors will play 2 rounds (6 hour limit per round) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, followed by the final round on Friday. The masters will play one-and-a-half rounds Tuesday through Friday, with the final round on Saturday. Masters will have an 8-hour limit per round.

This will be a three-move restriction event using 156-opening deck and Swiss system. Recording of games and time clocks will be used in the Masters group. (Players in other divisions are welcome to do the same, but optional). Clocks and scoresheets will be provided. Masters will use a tough deck consisting of 80 openings if the round is still tied after the first two games. The Masters will use the traditional round scoring. The Majors and Minors will play 4-game rounds, scoring by game (2 points for each win, 1 point for each draw).

Official ACF ratings (at time of registration) will be used as a guide to placing entrants into the appropriate division (Masters, Majors, or Minors). The ratings cutoffs for Masters/Majors/Minors are 2300 and 1950. The gray areas are 2250-2300 and 1900-1950. That is, players with a rating of 2300 and higher will enter the Master division. Players with ratings of 1950-2250 will be placed in the Majors, and entrants with a rating of 1900 and lower shall enter the Minors. Players are welcome to play up one division for the challenge and to try for higher prize money.
Winners of the Minors/Majors division of the last 3 Nationals must also move up a division.

The Traveler’s Choice Hotel is located on I-71 between Columbus and Cleveland (closer to Cleveland) and is less than a two hours drive from our 2005 Dublin venue. The hotel is located on the northeast corner of the Exit 218 interchange with state highway 18. Go east ¼-mile, and the hotel is on the left. (Need to do some type of a U-turn at the light to get around the median.)

The Traveler’s Choice has many guestrooms. They will also offer a daily complimentary breakfast, which they don’t normally do for their other patrons. Nearby Attractions

Many restaurants are located at this interchange, including within walking distance --Dairy Queen, Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, Waffle House, Buffalo Wild Wings, Alexander’s (a great find!), Lou’s Landing Grill and more. A large antique mall is nearby. The Lodi outlet mall and Strongsville mall are both 15 minutes away by interstate.

Cleveland has many attractions, including Lake Erie, Jacob’s Field, Tower City, Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Zoo, Great Lakes Science Center, Playhouse Square, Geauga Lake Amusement Park, and the John G. White chess & checker collection at the Cleveland Public Library.

  AICS National Tournament
The AICS National Tournament was held July 3rd - 7th , 2006 in Continental Inn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania . AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL CHECKERS SOCIETY

  World 3-move Qualifier
The World 3-move Qualifier was held July 24th - 28th , 2006 in Stonehaven, Scotland . Subject to confirmation by the GA the format of the Men's Qualifiers will be as follows.
 
1. The tournament will run from Monday 24 July to Friday 28 July.
2. There will be 8 rounds, 2 per day from Monday to Thursday.
3. The Friday will be kept free for a tiebreaker if needed.
4. Each round will consist of 2 games played at 30 moves per hour.

  Preserving Our Heritage Festival
The Preserving Our Heritage Festival was held August 26th , 2006 in Cedarock Park . We plan to participate in the Alamance Co. Cedarock Park-Heritage Festival.
Burlington Checker Club will have a Checker booth with several tables & chairs for playing checkers at the Festival as many other participants. All checker players are welcome to come by and play and help promote our great game. Let’s do our part in preserving our heritage. We need a few strong players on hand to handle the local heavy weights that drop by, and of course there will be plenty of kids asking to play each other and challenging club members. Last year was a fun day and great attendance.

  Whitley County Kentucky Checkers Tournament
The Whitley County Kentucky Checkers Tournament was held September 9th , 2006 in Williamsburg, KY . Registration at 9:00 am and the round robin play starts at 10:00 am. There will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies given. It is during the Old Fashioned Trading Days Festival, so there will be lots of music, food, and trading. The tournament usually lasts about 4 hours.

  102nd Illinois State Tournament
The 102nd Illinois State Tournament was held March 31st - April 1st , 2007 in Marion, Illinois . The 102nd Illinois State Checker Tournament will be held on March 31, and April 1, 2007 at the Illinois Centre Mall, which is located near the intersection of 57 and State Highway 13 (Exit 54B), Marion, Illinois. Registration on Saturday is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. with the business meeting at 9:00 a.m. and playing beginning at 9:45 a.m. There will be four rounds on Saturday and three on Sunday. I hope to have enough players for a C division to attract beginners. The entry fee will be $10.00.

A recommended motel is the Super 8 in Marion, Illinois. Phone number for the Super 8 is 618-993-5577. This is a newly renovated and very clean motel. Room rates are $32.88 plus tax. Directions to Super 8 is located to the left off the first stop light West of Exit 54 B. The mall is located at the 3-rd stop light west of the same exit. Turn right at this third light and go to the back of the mall toward the Target parking lot. Park in the lot before Target and the door will lead to the food court where we will be playing.

The American Checker Federation requires membership ($25.00) for all participants at ACF-sanctioned tournament.

Directions to my home: From I-85/40 take exit 41 - “Old 128 Lee Street exit”. It is East Lee Street. Follow East Lee St., East about 1 mile to Nelson’s Farm Rd. on right. Follow Nelson Farm Rd. to Alamance Church Rd. turn left on Alamance Church Rd. about 1 mile to stop light, turn right on Southeast School Rd. then go about 200 feet, turn right on Williams Dairy Rd. and go 9 tenth’s mile on left to my house with a “Checker Tournament” sign at driveway entrance.

Williams Dairy Rd. also dead-ends into Old Liberty Rd. about 5 miles Southeast of Greensboro. 3741 Williams Dairy Rd. will be 1 mile on right.

Please Note: Approaching Greensboro you would swing around below the city on I-85 BYP (By-Pass) and take exit 128 Alamance Church Rd. However if you decide to stay on I-85/40 approaching from the East then it is call exit 41- “Old 128 Lee St exit” and obviously approaching from the West you take exit 38 - “Old 126 ML King Jr. exit” going South 1 short block and turning left on Alamance Church Rd. then take Williams Dairy Rd. on right as above.

  West Tennessee Open Strawberry Festival Checker Tournament
The West Tennessee Open Strawberry Festival Checker Tournament was held May 11th - 12th , 2007 in Humboldt, TN . The tournament will be held at the "Regions Bank” 1214 Main St. Humboldt, TN. Same location as in past years. Play will begin Friday, May 11 at 9:00 am and continue until 2:00 pm Saturday. Frank and Mary Davis will again be referee and scorekeeper. The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival will again sponsor this tournament. We will have a very good prize fund (as always), free food, door prizes, and you won’t have to go outside to eat. From I-40 (Jackson, TN) take Exit 80-B – 14 miles to Humboldt. Motels:

  Tournament of Champions (CANCELLED)
The Tournament of Champions (CANCELLED) was held May 18th - 19th , 2007 in Omaha, Nebraska . Friday (May 18th): register by 1:30 pm and play three rounds starting at 2:00. Four rounds are played Sunday starting at 9:00. Entry fee = $25. First place prize = $300. You must be an ACF member. We are planning 16 entries and two groups of players. The winners of each group will play off 2 games for first place. (If they tie, they will play until someone wins a game.) The Swiss system and 3-move openings will be used.



A discounted room, continental breakfast & brunch are available for the players. This is a very exclusive event. There are 22 State and former State champions invited. The first 16 to commit will get in. RSVP to Dave Stovie ASAP.

  District 3/Pennsylvania State Tournament
The District 3/Pennsylvania State Tournament was held June 9th - 10th , 2007 in Grove City, PA . Pennsylvania and District 3 combined Checker Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday June 9 & 10, 2007 at the Comfort Inn on Rte. 208 Grove City. Call (724) 748-1005 for reservations. Mention you are there for the tournament to receive the group rate. A block of rooms is being reserved until June 1, so please make your reservations early.

The Inn is located off I-79 Exit 113. Those heading south on I-79 as they exit 113, the Inn will be on the right directly behind McDonald's and Red Apple Gas Station; those heading north on 79 Exit 113 will turn left on Rte. 208.

Lurie. Now 84 years of age, Dan Lurie is a muscular icon who was a physical
fitness pioneer of his time. Named 3 times America's Most Muscular Man, Dan
is also a former New York State Checkers Champion and an avid fan of the

  Southern States Checkers Tournament
The Southern States Checkers Tournament was held July 5th - 8th , 2007 in Americas Best Value Inn & Suites in Lebanon, TN . PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE.   Arthur Niederhoffer National Youth Championship
The Arthur Niederhoffer National Youth Championship was held July 21st - 22nd , 2007 in Plaza Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada . Event is for ages 21 and under. First prize in the top group is $3000, 2nd place $1000, 3rd $500, with other prizes to be determined. Valid ID will be required (e.g., birth certificate, passport, etc.) to verify age limit is met. See ACF National GAYP Tournament ad for reservation info. An adult must be present in each reserved sleeping room.

On Saturday there will be 4 rds. and on Sunday 3 rds. All youth playing in this event will play GAYP and will have to record their games. (The younger youth may have an adult or referee assist with this, but should not interfere with the game.) The Expert Youth will use clocks. We hope to offer 3 sections:

expert youth division ages 16 to 21
A class 12 to 15
B class for ages below 12 yrs

Qualified youth (master/major level) under age 16 may “play up” if they wish to try for National youth title.

  2007 ACF “Derek Oldbury” Go-As-You-Please (GAYP) National Tournament
The 2007 ACF “Derek Oldbury” Go-As-You-Please (GAYP) National Tournament was held July 22nd - 27th , 2007 in Plaza Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada . There are two parts to the hotel cost. Players will pay a sleeping room rate of only $29 plus tax for Sunday night through Thursday night and $65 on Friday when prices go way up in all of Vegas. Each entrant will also pay a one-time $60 charge to an ACF representative to help pay for our playing room for five days. (The playing room costs $500 per day!) Two persons to a room are allowed at the $29 plus tax rate. Family & friends of checkers will pay only $29 plus tax from Sunday through Thursday and $65 plus tax on Friday & Saturday. $15 extra is charged for each person beyond two to a room. Please note that the Plaza hotel does not accept Saturday arrivals on the 21st, but visitors wanting to arrive early at the Plaza may come Friday the 20th with weekend room rates of $65 plus tax. Even at ~$41 total per weeknight for entrants, this is a deal that is hard to beat anywhere, and we thank the sales staff at the Plaza for their cooperation. Hotel shuttles (for a fee) are available outside the airport baggage area.

We highly recommend that reservations be made as early as possible since rooms are limited at that price. Make sure that you mention that you'll be there for the US Checkers Championship to get the special rate. Let's make this one of the biggest tournaments ever in order to show the Las Vegas hotels that it's worth it to have checker tournaments there! The number for reservations is 1-800-634-6575. A deposit of $33 will hold your room. A major credit card will be required to hold the reservation, or you can send a check in early enough to hold your reservation. You may cancel your reservation and get your deposit back if you notify the hotel in advance.

Entry fees will be $50 (Master’s) / $30 (Majors) / $20 (Minors). Prize distribution is expected to be similar to that of 2005 National GAYP. ACF Membership is required to enter all divisions, and may be paid at registration. Registration will take place Monday morning from 8:30-10:30 followed by a business meeting. Format will be 13 two-game rounds (2 rounds Monday, 3 rounds Tuesday through Thursday, two rounds Friday) scored by game. Three points are awarded for a bye and for a forfeited round.

Seeding rules (ACFB #274) state that ACF ratings will be used at registration. The gray area cutoff for Masters/Majors is 2250-2300. The gray area cutoff for Majors/Minors is 1950-1900. Players may play up one division. Winners of the Majors and Minors divisions of the past 3 Nationals (going back to 2004 GAYP) must play up.

Masters will use clocks (30 moves per hour) and record games. Majors and minors may do the same, but optional. “Move-a-minute” rules will not be applied if clocks are used. Referee will be Tim Laverty. GAYP National Daily Schedule:

Derek E. Oldbury lived from March 21, 1924 to July 9 1994. He won his first British Championship in 1953. He won the U.S. National Ty. in 1976. Derek was the top British player in the 4th International Match (1983) with a 2-0-12 record. He was 3-move world champion from 1991-1994 and GAYP World champion from 1976-1982. He was a checker author of several works and generously set up trust funds to promote GAYP play.

  Ohio State Checker Tournament
The Ohio State Checker Tournament was held September 8th - 9th , 2007 in Medina, Ohio . The tournament will be held at the Rodeway Inn Medina Conference Center (same place as last year, new name) Medina, Ohio (located west of Akron)

  2007 GAYP World Qualifying Tournament
The 2007 GAYP World Qualifying Tournament was held September 17th - 21st , 2007 in Las Vegas, NV . The discounted room rate is $60.00 for Friday and Saturday, and then the room rate will be $35.00 for each weekday (ask for checker rate). Note: the Plaza Hotel does not take Saturday arrivals. We thank Gerry Lopez for getting affordable room rates. Hotel shuttles (for a fee) are available outside the airport baggage area. For Sunday arrivals, Kim Willis is also available to provide airport rides if she receives flight info in advance.

There are three divisions, men, women, and youth (under 18). Note that this is a restricted field event. All non-hosting federations in good standing may send two participants per division. Nominations and Federation dues to WCDF should be in place by July 1, 2007. All federations participating in WCDF tournament must have $100 US (or equivalent) dues paid to Ian Caws or Jonathon Chappell. Rules and Regulations for the WCDF GAYP Qualifiers 2007
1. The tournaments will be played during the week beginning Monday 17 September.
2. Each tournament will consist of 8 rounds played over 4 days.
3. Each round will consist of 2 games with no restriction.
4. Starting times for the rounds will be 9.30 am and 2.30 pm each day.
5. The rate of play will be 30 moves per hour.
6. The Swiss system for pairing will be used.
7. Tiebreakers will be held on the Friday morning if needed.
8. The referee will be Tim Laverty.

Additional:
1. If a position occurs 3 times in a game then that game is drawn.
2. If no man has moved and no piece has been captured for 40 moves by each side then the game is drawn.

  Salem (Illinois) Open Checker Tournament
The Salem (Illinois) Open Checker Tournament was held November 10th , 2007 in Denny's Restaurant in Salem, IL . The location is 1/4 mile west of the Interstate 57 and Highway US 50 interchange, on the right hand side of US 50 as you travel west. If you come from the west on US 50, then Denny's is on the left hand side, just prior to the Interstate 57 interchange. Registration will begin at 7:30 AM and play will begin at 8:00 AM. Players will compete in two classes (possibly three classes according to how many newer players attend). The tournament will consist of five rounds, two games per round. Three move restricted rules will apply. Each round will be limited to 90 minutes. Scoring will be two points for a win, one point for a draw and 3 points for a bye. Cash awards the higher finishers.
The room that Denny's is furnishing us is separated from the main restaurant, so there should be no distractions. Parking is available in the front and the rear.   Illinois State Checker Tournament
The Illinois State Checker Tournament was held April 5th - 6th , 2008 in Illinois Centre Mall, Marion, IL . The 103rd Illinois State Checker Tournament will be held on April 5th & 6th, 2008 at the Illinois Centre Mall, which is located near the intersection of 57 and State Highway 13 (Exit 54B), Marion, Illinois. Registration on Saturday is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. with the business meeting at 9:00 a.m. and playing beginning at 9:45 a.m. There will be four rounds on Saturday and three on Sunday. I hope to have enough players for a “C” division to attract beginners. The entry fee will be $10.00.

  2008 Texas State & District 8
The 2008 Texas State & District 8 was held June 6th - 7th , 2008 in Super 8 Motel, McKinney, Texas . The motel is located on Highway 75

  "Gene Lindsay" 3-move US National
The "Gene Lindsay" 3-move US National was held July 21st - 25th , 2008 in Vegas Club, downtown Las Vegas . The 2008 “Gene Lindsay” ACF National 3-move Tournament (Part of the 2008 IAGO World Tour) will be held in Las Vegas July 21 through 25 (Masters also finish on 25th). This will be a three-move restriction event using 156-opening deck and Swiss system. Recording of games and time clocks will be used in the Master’s group. Clocks and scoresheets will be provided. In order to finish on Friday, the Masters will play 6 games a day, Monday through Friday. This equates to one two-game round, scored by round, and seven four-game rounds, also scored by round. Masters will use a tough deck consisting of 80 openings for the final two games if the round is tied. The Majors and Minors will play 8 four-game rounds, scoring by game (2 points for each win, 1 point for each draw), with one round Monday & Friday, and 2 rounds Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Entry fees will be $50 (Master’s) / $30 (Majors) / $20 (Minors). ACF Membership is required to enter all divisions, and may be paid at registration. Players should also note the additional $75 to be collected at registration as part of hotel costs, as explained below under room rates.

Our National Tournament honoree this year is Gene Lindsay. He was a past ACF Treasurer and frequent International Match Player, who placed 4th at the 2007 GAYP National. He recently left a large endowment to several checker organizations, and was a friend to many.
The "Arthur Niederhoffer" National Youth Tournament (for 21 and under) will take place July 19 & 20.

"The VEGAS CLUB in downtown Las Vegas (across the street from the Plaza) will be the venue for this years 3 move National from July 21 thru 25. Rates have gone up in Las Vegas this year but we were able to get a special room rate of only $48 total for players at the Vegas Club. Also Friday and Saturday rates for July 18, 19 and for July 25, 26 will be only $55. Thats a great deal! Two players can share a room and cut the already low room rate by half. We have booked 40 rooms so players should get in their reservations before June 15th to make sure they take advantage of the special $48 rate. To make your reservation, call the central reservation #1-800-634-6575 and tell them you want to place your reservation at the VEGAS CLUB (not the Plaza) and make sure to mention the American Checker Federation special rate. We expect this event to attract the best players in the world. There will be three divisions as usual: Masters, Majors, Minors.

Clarification for those reserving rooms for the July National Tournament in Las Vegas….
The previously advertised room rates were $55 (Fri-Sat) and $48 (Sun.-Thurs.). The real room rates are $55 (plus tax, Fri & Sat.) and $29 (plus tax, Sun.-Thurs.). The “$48” was provided for budgeting purposes to assist with the playing room costs (as was done last year). These are still excellent rates for a strip hotel. There is a $15 per weekday differential for players. So, players will need to provide an additional $75 per player at registration, as the hotel will not collect this for us. Any non-playing guests with separate rooms will only have to pay $29 plus tax for weekdays.

Gerry Lopez has bargained good rates for us, and he was the only one who offered a National bid. Gerry tells me this will be his last Las Vegas bid, so please consider supporting what will probably conclude the “Las Vegas era” in checkers.

Regarding the call-in number 1-800-634-6575, note that the Plaza Hotel handles the room reservations for the Vegas Club, which does not have their own reservations line (same owner for both hotels).

As in the past, the tournament will be played under 3Move, using the Swiss System of scoring. There will be 8 rounds at 2 games per round - 1 hour games. We will play 4 rounds Friday of 2 hours per round - 1 round before lunch and break for a 1 hour lunch at 12:00 - various restaurants close by. Then 3 rounds afterwards, an early start of 8AM for 4 rounds Saturday - 2 rounds before lunch then break for a 1 hour lunch, and 2 afterwards, hopefully finished by 5PM permitting adequate travel time back home.

The Illinois 101 Open was held October 4th - 5th , 2008 in Marion, IL . The 74th Annual Illinois 101 Open Tournament will be held at the Illinois Centre Mall food court.
The Illinois Centre Mall is located west of the intersection of Interstate I-57 and IL State Highway 13 (Exit 54B). Travel west on IL 13 about 1.5 miles to enter the mall. The mall is located at the third stop light west of the interstate exit. Turn right at this third light and to the back of the mall toward the Target parking lot. Park in the lot before Target and the door will lead to the food court where we will be playing. The food court entrance is on the north side.

  "Olympic" IMSA checkers & Qualifying Tournament
The "Olympic" IMSA checkers & Qualifying Tournament was held October 13th - 17th , 2008 in Beijing, China . This is a new IMSA (International Mind Sport Association) checkers event, which will be played in 3-move as part of the 1st World Mind Sports Games. While medals will be awarded, it is not an official event of the Beijing Olympic games. This is a restricted field event. Alex Moiseyev (3-move World Champ), Jim Morrison, Richard Beckwith, and Kim Willis will represent USA. Event will also serve as annual WCDF Qualifying Tournament for men and ladies. Approximately 50 players from 20 countries are expected to participate.

  Irish Open
The Irish Open was held October 25th - 29th , 2008 in Town House Hotel in Naas, Co. Kildare . The Irish Open Draughts Tournament will be held at the Town House Hotel, Naas, Co. Kildare from Saturday, 25.10.08, to Wednesday, 29.10.08. This is the same venue where the Kildare Open has been staged for the past three years. And the Irish Draughts Association is grateful to Bill Dobbins for obtaining the use of the Town House, which has proven popular with the players attending the Kildare Opens. The Association is also grateful to P.J. Furey for making a venue in Carlow available, even though the Town House was awarded the staging of the tournament. Con McCarrick is also due a word of thanks for his efforts to bring the Irish Open to Dundalk.

The Irish Open will be played in three sections. The Masters & Seniors will be played over ten rounds from the Saturday to Wednesday. The Intermediates will be played over eight rounds from the Saturday to Tuesday. The entry fees will be €40 for the Masters, €30 for the Seniors, and €25 for the Intermediates. There will be a draw to raise prize money for the tournament. It will involve selling a maximum of 100 tickets at €10 each. The first prize for the draw will be €300 and there will be two prizes of €100 each. It is anticipated that the prize fund at the Irish Open will be at least €1,500.

Bill Dobbins & Peadar Sweeney have agreed to act as Controllers for these Irish Championships. The best placed Irish based player will be nominated by the Irish Draughts Association as the Official Challenger for the Irish 3-Move Match Play Title. And, giving players further incentive to attend, there will be a party at the Town House Hotel on the Tuesday Evening for the players taking part in the tournament.

  District 4 (NC)
The District 4 (NC) was held October 31st - November 1st , 2008 in Lexington, NC . Registration will be handled in the playing room at the fellowship hall on Friday morning between 8:00 - 9:00 AM. A short business meeting is scheduled following registration. Play begins 10:00 AM Friday. The entry fee is $20.00. Any contributions to support the tournament or Prize Fund will be appreciated.

As in the past, the tournament will be played under 3Move, using the Swiss System of scoring. There will be 8 rounds at 2 games per round - 1 hour games. 1 opening using the 156 Deck Openings; Score by games, 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 3 for a bye. We will play 4 rounds Friday of 2 hours per round - 1 round before lunch and break for 1 hour lunch. Then 3 rounds afterwards, an early start of 8AM for 4 rounds Saturday - 2 rounds before lunch then break for a 1 hour lunch at 12:00, and 2 afterwards, hopefully finished by 5PM permitting adequate travel time back home.
Larry Michael is our District 4 Manager who is the sponsor/director of this tournament. He plans to have the Tournament at his Church in the fellowship hall. This is a very nice facility, plenty of room, kitchen, padded chairs, etc. Friday evening fellowship meal! The 104th IL State Tournament was held April 4th - 5th , 2009 in Illinois Centre Mall, Marion IL . which is located near the intersection of 57 and State Highway 13 (Exit 54B), Marion, Illinois.

Registration on Saturday is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. with the business meeting at 9:00 a.m. and playing beginning at 9:45 a.m. There will be four rounds on Saturday and three on Sunday. I hope to have enough players for a “C” division to attract beginners. The entry fee will be $10.00.

The ACF "Jim Morrison" National Tournament (GAYP) was held August 3rd - 7th , 2009 in Americas Best value Inn and Suites, Lebanon, TN . Mr. Frank Davis has submitted the bid for hosting this years GAYP National Tournament in Lebanon, TN. Nationals will be held August 1-7 at the Americas Best value Inn and Suites. Longtime youth sponsor Mr. Victor Niederhoffer will again sponsor the weekend youth tournament (age 21 and under) held each year in honor of his late father, Arthur Niederhoffer. I wish to publicly recognize Mr. Niederhoffer for his continued support of our young players, who will one day be our adult players in the ACF.

The main thing is to come and compete, make new friends, see old friends, and immerse yourself for a week of Checkers/Draughts. Mr. Frank Davis and J.R. Entry fees will be $50 (Master’s) / $30 (Majors) / $20 (Minors). ACF Membership is required to enter all divisions, and may be paid at registration. Registration will take place Monday morning Aug. 3 from 8:30-10:30 followed by a business meeting. Format will be 13 two-game rounds (2 rounds Monday, 3 rounds Tuesday through Thursday, two rounds Friday) scored by game. Three points are awarded for a bye and for a forfeited round.

Jim Morrison won the 1991 & 1995 GAYP Nationals, the 2005 World Qualifier, and has played for the GAYP world title four times. Jim has represented USA in several international matches, including being the USA #1 seed in 2005. Jim resides in Glasgow, KY, not far from Lebanon, TN.

  World Qualifying Tournament (GAYP)
The World Qualifying Tournament (GAYP) was held September 1st - 4th , 2009 in Isle of Wight, England . The World GAYP Qualifying Tournament to be played at The Town Club, Ryde, Isle of Wight. The EDA will provide £500 to be distributed £250 to the winner and Qualifier, £150 to the runner-up, £100 3rd., and playing equipment for the event. The highest placed lady could qualifying to play Amangul in 2010 if no other tournament is arranged. It will be Carnival Week in Ryde, with spectacular processions on at least 2 occasions as an added attraction. Two nominations are allowed per federation. The USA (ACF and ICHF) will be represented by Jim Morrison, Richard Beckwith, Anthony Bishop, Charles Freeman, and Wilma Wolverton.

The The 92nd Annual Virginia Open Checker Tournament was held September 18th - 19th , 2009 in The Super 8 Motel in Bedford, Virginia . Registration will be handled in the playing room on Friday morning between 8:00 - 9:00 AM. A short business meeting is scheduled following registration. Play begins 10:00 AM Friday. The entry fee is $20.00. Any contributions to support the tournament or prize fund will be appreciated.

As in the past, the tournament will be played under 3Move, using the Swiss System of scoring. There will be 8 rounds at 2 games per round - 1 hour games. We will play 4 rounds Friday of 2 hours per round - 1 round before lunch and break for a 1 hour lunch at 12:00 - various restaurants close by. Then 3 rounds afterwards, an early start of 8AM for 4 rounds Saturday - 2 rounds before lunch then break for a 1 hour lunch, and 2 afterwards, hopefully finished by 5PM permitting adequate travel time back home.

  76th Illinois 101 Open
The 76th Illinois 101 Open was held October 3rd - 4th , 2009 in Illinois Centre Mall, Marion, IL . The Illinois Centre Mall is located west of the intersection of Interstate I-57 and IL State Highway 13 (Exit 54B). Travel west on IL 13 about 1.5 miles to enter the mall. The mall is located at the third stop light west of the interstate exit. Turn right at this third light and to the back of the mall toward the Target parking lot. Park in the lot before Target and the door will lead to the food court where we will be playing. The food court entrance is on the north side.

The World 3-move Title Match was held October 5th - 15th , 2009 in Medina, Ohio . The 3-move world title match (40 games) between Alex Moiseyev (champion) and Ron King is scheduled for October 5-15 at the Rodeway Inn in Medina, Ohio, with Oct. 10 scheduled as a rest day. Steve Holliday is referee. Ron King won the right to challenge by finishing second to Alex in the World Mind Sports Games & Qualifier event held in Beijing in October 2008. Accommodations and prize fund will be provided to the participating players. Donations for this match are most welcome and may be sent to R. Beckwith.

The District 9 was held October 10th - 11th , 2009 in Fountain, Library, Fountain, CO . Fountain, Colorado is next to Colorado Springs. This will be 3-move and gayp. Eric Strange and Bob Murr will be running this.

District 9 tournament will begin at 9 A.M each day and ending at around 6 pm the first day and until we finish on the second day. 4 rounds the first day and 3 rounds the second day. The Tennessee State Open was held March 5th - 7th , 2010 in Lebanon, Tenn. . The Tennessee State Checker Tournament will be held at the Americas Best Value Inn and Suites, in Lebanon, Tennessee. The Illinois State Checker Tournament was held April 10th - 11th , 2010 in Illinois Centre Mall, Marion, IL . The 105th Illinois State Checker Tournament will be held at the Illinois Centre Mall, which is located near the intersection of 57 and State Highway 13 (Exit 54B), Marion, Illinois. Registration on Saturday is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. with the business meeting at 9:00 a.m. and playing beginning at 9:45 a.m. There will be four rounds on Saturday and three on Sunday. I hope to have enough players for a “C” division to attract beginners. The entry fee will be $10.00.

The West Tennessee Strawberry Festival was held May 7th - 8th , 2010 in Regions Bank, Humboldt, TN . The 73rd Annual Tournament is held on a Friday & Saturday

If you come I-29 North or South, take the I-680 West exit to 72nd Street North. Take the 72nd Street exit North off of I-680 whether you are coming from the East or West on I-680. The 2010 Texas State & District 8 Tournament was held June 11th - 12th , 2010 in McKinney, TX .
