My Complete And Updated Library List

Postby Dennis Cayton on Sun Jun 24, 2007 7:39 pm

Greetings Checker Friends:

Well, it looks like I am not going to sell my library by the end of June., as I had hoped and needed to do. I attribute this to any combination of the following possible reasons:

***There may be too many "white elephants" in my list.
***The hassle and the uncertainty of postage and shipping costs.
***Maybe nobody wants them. : (
***Maybe I'm trying too hard (LOL!)

In any event, I thought I would give this one more shot. I am going to provide a complete and updated list of my checker library, if it will fit, in this one single post.

Now you won't have to send me a private message or an email message for my complete list.

My set of Elam's Checker Board will not be included, as I have listed it separately, and will to sell it on eBay if I am unable to sell it here.

So here goes my library list:

MAGAZINE COLLECTIONS

The Keystone Checker Review
A complete and unbound set of James E. Reed's KCR, beginning with the January 1990 issue and ending with the November 1995 issue, for a total of 36 issues in all. Each issue ranges from like new to excellent to good condition. For an example of an issue I consider to be in merely "good condition", there is a little catsup smudge on the front of the July 1993 cover. I regard this publication to be an exceptionally instructional series for beginner and master alike. I had several articles published in this magazine. For this reason, I feel like it's a part of me.

$50 plus postage and shipping costs.
_____

The American Checker Federation Bulletion -- The Official Publication Of The American Checker Federation

BOTTOM LINE -- I have a total of 146 issues. If you buy the entire set, the cost is now $150, and I will pay the first $50 of the postage and shipping costs. If your postage and shipping costs are greater than $50, I will notify you of the difference, and you can pay me later.

A lot of detailed description of this collection follows. If you are not interested in this collection, go ahead and scroll on down to my next collection: California Checker Chatter.

If you are interested, read on:

A lot of players are more interested in the specific ACF National Tournaments the ACFBs cover than in the yearly sets themselves. For their benefit, I have broken down my collection by the specific ACF National Tournaments covered:

***The 30th National Tournament, held at Sanford, North Carolina, in July of 1976. Issues #155 to #168. As listed above, Issue #168 is missing, which included the last of the 12-16 openings.

***The 33rd National Tournament, held at Tupelo, Mississippi, in August of 1982. Issues #192 to #206. Due to the missing pages in Issue #198 and missing Issues #199 to #201,, this set is incomplete.

***The 34th National Tournament, held at Tupelo, Mississippi, in July of 1984. Issues #207 to #215. A complete set.

A.C.F. Inter-District Mail Play-Off Booklets (1973 - 1979): Although these booklets began in 1965, my collection commences with the 1973 booklet. As a former mail player from this bygone era, I used to refer to these almost every day. As a result, many of the pages became ragged, tattered, and dog-eared with extensive use. In most of these booklets, pages have had to be restapled countless times.

In other words, some of them are in pretty bad shape.

To my knowledge, with the exception of a couple of missing front covers (1976 and 1977), all of the pages are intact. Some of these booklets are also obvious reprints. In view of the above, I am selling all of my booklets prior to the 1990 booklet for $1 each. Howerver, the excellent play contained within these booklets speaks for itself.

1973: Winner: Dan Vestal. Very good condition. $1.

1974: Winner: Marvin Rex. Very good condition. $1.

1975: Winner: John Caldwell. Fair condition. A sloppy reprint but all the pages are there. $1.

1976: Winner: Jack Zvorak. Poor condition. The front page is missing. The pages have had to be restapled. $1.

1977: Winner: ???? Poor condition. The front page is missing, and I can't see the box scores. Raggedy dog-eared pages have needed extensive restapling. Hopefully there's at least a dollar's worth of play in its 51 pages. $1.

1978: Winner: Jerry Childers. Fair to good condition. The pages have gone through some restapling. $1.

1979: Winner: Marvin Rex. Fair condition. The pages have gone through some restapling. $1.

All of the above (1973 - 1979): $5

_________________

Although I did not mention it in my original library list at the top of this thread, I will sell individual issues of the ACFB at the following prices:

$3 per issue if all pages are present and intact. The last time I checked, the price of an individual issue of an ACFB from Donald Goodwin's estate sale list was $5. If I am wrong about this, or if this has since been changed, please let me know.

$1 per issue if any of the preliminary pages (i.e., tourney and match news, swap shop columns, mail play ladders, obituaries, etc.) are missing, or if I spot any other imperfections.

In all of my issues of the ACFB I have for sale, ALL of the game pages of the ACF National Tournaments are present and intact.

If you want to buy any individual issues of the ACFB, which range from the
October 1978 issue (Number 155) to the Decenber 2003 issue (Number 306), let me know which ones you need.

I will examine the condition of each one and advise you as to whether it is a complete issue for $3 or an incomplete issue for $1 (with all of the ACF National Tournament games still present and intact).

Or make me an offer.

Once again, all of my prices are negotiable.

Feel free to write to me at anytime.

Good luck to all.

Best Wishes,

Dennis Cayton
