I am wondering - why programs use different size of ending databases ?? If so - what really we are testing or trying to compare ?

The answer is simple. It all depends on the developer of a program that did database. I have to be fair to all players in the tournament. Give an example: Ed Gilbert has captured the base ends 10 (5x5), and Alexander Svirin has database 8 (4x4).

Technically this game must be named "Anglo-American Checkers", not "American Checkers". Historically it's started in Europe. Sometimes people name it as "English Draughts"

Very good idea Krzysztof,

will the games be available somewhere?

I remember that I always liked Sage, because of its stylish pieces/boards, so I am a bit disapponted that it lost. But after this event we have a better comparison of their relative strenghts then before, and it's still a few rounds to go.

Draw rate 7/8 = 87,5 %.

I expect the draw rate to be well above 70 percent, but not as high as 90 percent as some expect.

Let's see what happens in the next rounds.

Very interesting tournament.

Nexus just lost a round and also lost first place.

The draw rates are not even as high as I expected:

round one 7/8 = 87,50 %
round two 4/8 = 50,00 %
round three 2/8 = 25,00 %
round four 6/8 = 75,00 %
round five 4/8 = 50,00 %

cumulated over all rounds: 23/40 = 57,50 %

It looks like the programs show a lot of fighting "spirit" (can a machine have a spirit at all? Charles Lindbergh obviously thought so...)

And 11 men-ballot seems to be full of possibilities indeed.

Gui Checkers now in a narrow lead, ahead of Cake, Kingsrow and Nexus.
