3-move world title match in progress

Postby sergio on Mon Aug 31, 2015 6:15 am

In Italy this morning Miki beat Kondlo in the first game and drew the second.
It seems that Kondlo has some problems with published plays, but he is good to complicate games. Kondlo played something new in the second game and missed a win.
The opening was 9-13 24-19 10-14
After 2 games out of 40 the score is 3-1 to Miki.

Miki played losing move here 24-28?. Draw was available after 8-11, 30-25, 12-16, 31-26, 24-27 etc. After 24-28? Lubabalo missed pretty but not very complicated 31-26*, 28-32, 30-25, 32-27, 26-23* WW Instead winning 31-26*, Lubabalo played 14-9? with unfortunate draw.

First game proved that Miki study "Sixth" more seriously and hardly than Lubabalo :D

8-11 is OK, 3-7? as played by Lubabalo, loses after 13-9*

I think the second game 31-26 win was very hard to see. Obviously an advantage, but not easy to prove. 14-9 looked strong but unfortunately not quite strong enough to win. The 13-9 win in first game I believe can also be found in BC from 10-14, 24-19, 6-10 opening.

2nd opening was 10-15, 22-17, 7-10. Miki won with weak (red) side. In position on diagram Lubabalo played very suspicious 27-23? and I really don't know if there is any scientific draw here after 15-18 as played by Borghetti.

In the 4th game Lubabalo jumped 9x18 (I like to do this in Internet games!) and got a weak but playable game. In position on diagram 9-14 was OK though still white has very good position. Instead, Lubabalo played losing 2-7? Here Miki missed winning 21-17* to stop 9-14? 27-24 14x21 30-25 etc. Miki played 27-24 and then no one missed anything and game eventually ended with draw.

Score 6-2 or 2-0-2 in Miki favor.

In the third round the opening was 9-13 24-20 10-15. Miki drew the first game with the black side and beat Kondlo in the second game.

Nothing happened in the first game: 9-13 24-20 10-15 Kondlo moved 27-24 5-9 23-19 15-18 etc drawn

Second game
[Black "Kondlo"]
[White "Miki"]
[Result "0-1"]
1. 9-13 24-20 2. 10-15 28-24 3. 7-10?(A) 23-19 4. 6-9? (B) 26-235. 9-14 23-18 6. 14x23 27x18 7. 5-9
31-26 8. 1-5 ?(C) 26-23 9. 3-7 32-27 10. 11-16 20x11 11. 7x16 18x11 12. 8x15 22-17 13. 13x22
25x11 14. 10-14 21-17 15. 14x21 29-25 16. 9-13 25-22 17. 5-9 24-20 18. 9-14 22-18 19.
14-17 27-24 20. 17-22 11-8 21. 4x11 19-15 22. 22-26 15x8 23. 26-31 20x11 24. 31-26 24-19
25. 26-22 18-15 26. 2-6 11-7 27. 6-9 7-2 28. 22-26 23-18 29. 26-23 8-3 0-1
(A)weak move
(B) 2x2 with 12-16 is regular now
(C) very weak but perhaps it is still drawn: 8. 2-6! 21-17 9. 10-14 17x10 10. 13-17 22x13 11. 15x31 32-28 12. 6x15 19x10 13. 31-27 13x6 14. 11-16! 20x11 15. 27x20! 11-7 16. 20-16 7-2 17. 16-11 30-26 18. 12-16 26-23 19. 16-20 25-22 20. 8-12 29-25 21. 11-16 22-17 22. 16-11 17-13 23. 4-8 it seems to be a very narrow draw

In this position instead easy 11-15, Miki choose a beauty way: 10-15, 30-25, 2-7* (the only move), 25-21, 15-18, 23x14, 11-15, 14-9, 7-11 taken man back with draw.

Kondlo's lack of pp knowledge is really showing and hurting him in this match so far. I am thinking my initial prediction may have been too generous :)

The question is - can Michele Borghetti beat Tinsley record of "the shortest one side" match ?

Here are one side matches I am aware:

1. M. Tinsley vs E. Lowder, 1979, M. Tinsley won with 15 wins, 10 draws and match ended after 25 games.

2. R. King vs W. Edwards, 1994, R. King won 14 games, 1 lost and 13 draws and match ended after 28 games.

3. A. Moiseyev vs E. Lowder, 2002. I won 12 games and 17 draws and match ended after 29 games.

4. M. Tinsley vs P. Davis, 1988. M. Tinsley won 10 games and 21 draws. Match ended after 31 games.

I am not sure if match M. Tinsley vs D. Oldbury in 1958 must be there. Score was 9-1 which is not enough to consider it as "one side match"

Red to move and draw.

Technically position on diagram is "last resort" for red in match game #6 where champion scored a pretty win. In position on diagram Lubabalo played losing 11-16? but 9-14* is scientific draw proved by Kingsrow. Not sure if this fact is known to PP. There is a lot of pretty play around after 9-14, but I leave it to readers to discover on their own!

Yes , a nice draw.
A possible continuation might run

9-14 18-9 5-14 22-18 15-22 25-9 10-14 9-6 2-9 29-25 13-17*(not 7-10 ? loses) 30-26 7-10 25-22 9-13 22-18 17-22 26-17 13-22 18-9 22-26 9-6 26-31 6-2 31-26 2-7 10-15 etc draws.

How about this continuation ...

9-14, 18x9, 5x14, 20-16, 11x20, 22-17, 13x22, 25x9, 8-11 30-26, 11-16, 26-22, 4-8 (or 7-11 first), 21-17, 7-11, 9-5 (17-13, 10-14, 19x10, 11-15 etc Draw), 2-6, 5-1, 15-18* (6-9? loses by fantastic 23-18!!, 16x32, 1-5, 20x27, 5x16, 12x19, 18x4 White Win) Draw

This position and problem needs a special diagram
