Michael Holmes wrote:Just curious as to a possible timeline for these changes? And curious to the WCDF situation too. In my humble opinion more categories would make sense and they would have to play together or separate depending on the number of people attending the tournament. Any help I can give let me know Joe. I also believe that since the youth do not play against adults they should be added to the member list with their rankings. This will grab their interest and it would not affect the adults rankings. This would be a big and important change for the ACF. My next stop this year is Fort Knox but without them being listed in the bulletin or being able to get on the ACF website, or some other website, to check their ranking, it decreases the motivation. Any help in this area would be much appreciated.
I agree with Michael proposals regarding youth rating. If I will be elected as ACF Player Representative, this will be done.

http://checkersusa.com/books/straight/

I know of two publications, the first based on chess lectures, and the second based on checkers lectures.
Common Sense In Chess by Emanuel Lasker was based on twelve lectures before an audience of chess players in London in 1895.
A 1917 edition of Common Sense In Chess was corrected by David A. Mitchell, author of Checkers (1918).
The Major Tactics Of Checkers (1939) by Millard F. Hopper is a 32 page booklet with the subtitle "Covering a complete course in the strategies and science of checkers as given in a series of Radio Lectures over Radio Station W.N.Y.C."

to me checkers has drop back some how. well those who disagree with me every one has there own view.

the idea of the world cup is a brilliant idea to move the game ahead.only if we can get the prize money up there with chess. :bounce:

The 1917 edition of Common Sense in Chess with Mitchell's corrections is in Google Books.

Edward Winter has an interesting article about David Mitchell that has a fine summary of Mitchell's writing.

Hopper's The Major Tactics Of Checkers is in the Online Checkers Library, as well as Mitchell's Checkers.
Here is a direct link to Hopper's booklet:
