Bill, I show 15 votes for "Similarities" and 14 for "V.J. #4." Can you confirm?

John,

Thanks for pointing out what appears to be a bug in the Problem Composing Contest program.

Apparently when I entered the system to comment on the results of Contest #3, the starting and finishing dates advanced one day. Then when I went back to modify my comments, the dates advanced another day. In effect, I was keeping the contest open while I was trying to wrap it up!

I think I have now worked around the problem and managed to close the polls on this contest for good. If you look at the results now, you will see that while I was fiddling, all three problems received an extra vote after the intended deadline of 4/22/12. I am treating the extra votes as legitimate. That means the total number of votes cast was 40, instead of 37, and the contest remains a tie.

Jason tells me that after this week, he will be able to work on the system bugs for me.

I'm amazed at the increasing interest in problem composing.
