John, maybe make this button / switch more visible ? I also didn't see other Divisions until your post !

_______________________________________________________________________

With tears on my eyes I want to thanks Hugh Burton and all other fellows for recognition things I am doing. Well ... some people say I can do much more. But the fact is if Kim is very successful in kids business that doesn't mean all of us should jump to scholl and being successfull. Not quite. Everyone should whatever (s)he can do best !

Perhaps it is my destination and field just going to tournaments, showup at events and I know - this encourage people. When organisers annonce in advance that I am coming, they always get better turnout - this was proved many times.

Regards,

Alex

Alex, that's a Google Docs feature, so I can't change the design. However, if the ACF agrees to use ChessArbiter Pro (I will even pay the registration fee) for future tournaments, then we can switch to a much better interface for tracking pairings and results. The WCDF, as well as many other national and regional federations, have used it for several years.

Just several interesting moments from TN State Tourney ...

#1. A. Moiseyev vs J. Acker, Rd1, G1
Image
White to move and draw

John played here 28-24? and lost after 9-13, 31-26, 3-7, 32-28, 7-11, 22-18, 13-17, 18x9, 5x14 RW

In position on diagram draw was available after 27-24* , 20x27, 31x24, 16-20, 22-17, 20x27, 17-13, 27-31, 13x6, 31-27, 6-2, 27x18, 32-27* Draw !

#2. J. Morrison vs A. Moiseyev, Rd2, G2
Image
Red to move and draw

I missed a win earlier when played 17-13 instead 29-25-22. In position on diagram Jim made a pretty drawn move 10-15* and game continued:

18x2, 14-18, 23x14, 16x32, 24-19, 9x18, 2x9, 5x14, 26-22 and here Jim played losing 20-24?, 22x15, 32-27, 13-9, 1-5, 15-11 etc WW. Instead 20-24? red had a draw after 32-27*, 31x24, 20x27, 22x15, 27-32, 13-9, 32-27, 9-6, 1x10, 15x6, 27-23 etc Draw

#3. J. Moore vs A. Moiseyev, Rd3, G1
Image
Red to move and draw

Red has three moves here, but only one drew the game - 6-9*. Instead Joe played 8-11? and after 21-17, 14x30, 23x7, 6-10, 7-3, 30-26, 3-7, 10-14, 19x10, 26-22, 7x16, 12x19, 24x15 resigned.

#4. A. Moiseyev vs J. Webster, Rd4, G1 ........... #5
Image .. Image
Red to move and draw ............. White to move and win.

Interesting and quite instructive position. On the previous John move I was mostly afraid of 30-26, 32-27, 27-23. After he played 31-27 I thought mistakenly that I am OK now with 19-23. Wrong ! Continue from diagram #4:

19-23 (A) 28-24 12-16 24-20 16-19 18-15 6-10 27x18 10x17 18-14 19-23 14-10 (B) 17-22 20-16 8-12 16-11 22-26 11-8 26-31 15-11 31-27 8-4 27-24 4-8 24-27 11-7 (C) 2x11 8x15 27-31 10-6 5-9 Draw

A). Loses! Draw was available after 8-11, 30-26, 11-16, 27-23, 16-20 (or 6-9 first), 23x16, 12x9, 31-27, 6-9, 14-10 (or 27-23, 20-24 & 19-24 Draw), 9-13, 27-23, 19-24, 20-24 etc Draw

B). During the gme I thought that 20-16 should miss a win after 2-6, but ... 14-9**, 5x14, 16-12 and no scientific draw for red! WOW

C). Anything by this ! See diagram #5. John should definetely avoid this and any other trade which leads to famous Peterson draw because move is good for red.

#6. J. Webster vs A. Moiseyev, Rd4, G2
Image
Whie to move and win (2 ways)

Here I played a winning shot 19-15*, 11x18 (10x19 also loses after 17-14, 9x18, 27-23, 18x27, 31x10 etc WW) , 27-24, 20x27, 32x7, 2x11, 26-23, 12-16, 25-22, 11-15, 23-18, 15-19, 18-15 WW.

After game was over John told me that in position on diagram he was hoping for 25-21, 10-14, 17x1, 11-16, 13x6, 16x30. I preliminary agreed with him that this may save the game, however program analyses shows that win still exists for white after 21-17, 2x9, 17-13, 9-14, 31-26, 30x23, 27x11, 5x14, 1-6 etc RW

Ah yes, in my game 6-9 obviously offers more resistance. It seems like if you go 23-5 I can keep your king at bay in the double corner and you really have no way to get behind my pieces. If you go 23-7, it is a little more complicated but still draws. I need to study that more. Normally I have a hard time visualizing moves that involve lots of jumps, it is why I had a hard time figuring it out. Dang, I really thought I was going to draw that game too!

Should Michael Holmes have played on for the win against Mr. Alex?
Where is the draw for white if play continues...?

Hi, George ! In position on diagram me and Michael agreed with draw because both of us saw continuation: 15-18, 23x7, 5x14, 15-10, 2x11, 10-6, 32-28, 26-22 Draw

I can assure you that Michael never play "for draw" with me in the past several years and couple times was successful (last time in 2008 I beleive). Same with me. I fought very hard in this game and almost overplayed it (haha). Michael played it accurately and solidly and draw was a logical result of this game which lasted 2.5 hours.

We didn't have time to play second game - lucky Michael

We will probably get to play again before the next TN tourney George. My son and I have plans to play in the IL tourney. Both of us will be playing in the masters!

Would be interesting to have a father versus son matchup! When is the last time that has happened in an ACF tournament?

Did you and your dad play in PA? I think we just had one division that year.

We both played in the one PA division, but we never actually played each other. That is what I meant, has a father and son actually played each other in an ACF tournament before.

The last time I can find is the 2009 Greensboro (NC) Open, when Teal Stanley played a round with his dad Bill.
