Greater Fargo Open Checker Tournament

Postby neilwenberg on Fri Oct 11, 2013 11:17 am

The Greater Fargo Open Checker Tournament will be held at the Fercho Conference Room in the Fargo Public Library at 102 3rd Street North on November 2, 2013. Starting time will be 9:30 AM and five rounds of Swiss System will be played. This tournament is open to anyone wishing to play, there will not be an entry fee, and American Checker Federation membership is not required.
Each of the five rounds will consist of two game matches with each player having red in the one game and white in the other. Be aware that red moves first, all jumps must be taken, and if you touch a checker you must move it. Each round will be limited to 1½ hours and if the round is not completed the participants not finished will be put on a move a minute until a result is achieved. Two points for a win and one point for a draw with totals added to determine places.
Depending on the number of players a Round Robin format of play could be used with each player playing a two game match with every other player.
This tournament is open to any interested player from anyplace in the world. The main purpose of this tournament is to promote checkers in North Dakota and specifically in the Fargo metropolitan area. The ideal is to have fun in a game that looks very simplistic but which has many challenges to the participants. You will find that is the internet site for the American Checker Federation and much interesting information on the game of checkers can found there.
