Crist Miller's Checker Open

Postby JohnAcker on Sat Aug 18, 2012 4:05 pm

I attended Crist Miller's GAYP checkers tournament in the heart of Ohio Amish country this weekend-- my moves were by and large crummy, but the food and hospitality were great!

Here are the final standings; the winner (Ike King) received a handcrafted wooden clock created for the occasion.

Thanks for posting the results John!

I noticed my friend Marvin Yoder from Shipshewanna was not there so I gave him a call. He told me that he stayed home to attend his grandson's wedding. He said that Ray Yoder was the van driver for the group from Shipshewanna and that he thought Ray might be the player listed as Eddie Yoder?

Congrats to Issac King for placing on top. (Marvin said he is a PA player.)

I was glad to see my friends Kenny and Jerry miller played well. I'm sure it was a fun day!

I don't know-- Mr. Yoder introduced himself as Eddie, and I think he's a relatively new player. He and I didn't play in the tournament, but based on our practice games afterwards I'd say he's a developing minor.

No, Eddie Yoder is quite a bit younger than that.

A tip of the hat to John Acker for good postings and helping run Mid-Ohio Checker Meet 2012. Crist Miller deserves consideration for opening his home to a spirited, 14 player, well run, well organized checker tournament. Crist's wife Rosanna has my praise and thanks for providing delicious food to the participants. Of course a big thank you to all who played, especially Isaac King, a master class playe,r who came from the Lancaster area and won the Meet!
