I never knew those devices existed.
Does anybody know if and when it was used in serious play?
It might be a good item for a museum, Liam, though I guess you probably already own it.

Hi Ingo,

We had one of those devices in the London Draughts Association (at the St Bride Institute).
It was called "The Spinner" and had all the 3 Move Openings on it.
It gradually fell into disuse however, with the advent of ballot cards.
One reason for this was that as the arrow slowed down to a stop, if one saw it was going to rest on an opening you disliked, the player would smack his hand down on it as it came to rest thus moving it over the line onto another opening. (Amazing the tricks players would get up to - lol.)
