5th. Annual Buffet and Presentation Dance[/b:d9bb630121]
The Inishowen draughts club celebrated their 14th. anniversary in style when on last Friday night 20th. April, 2007, they organized their 5th. annual buffet and presentation dance. The function which was attended by over 200 draughts enthusiasts and supporters from Donegal, Derry, Dublin and Tyrone was held in “The Lake of Shadows”, Hotel, Buncrana. The festivities continued into the wee hours of the morning with “John Craig and Rodio” providing the music to a wide variety of old-time and modern dances.
The function incorporated the annual presentation of prizes, which were presented by a number of the twenty-plus sponsors who continue to provide ongoing support to the club. After the rip roaring success of our previous dances, it was a major challenge to the main organizer Joe Fullerton to compete with the previous events, but he arose to the occasion once again and by using his wit and unique charm he scored another success for the Inishowen Draughts club. Our Vice-Chairman Brian Lafferty who was the master of ceremonies on the night eloquently moved through his schedule with his usual enchantment and witty lines of blarney.
A total of €2,000, was presented to five very important causes in the Inishowen area which were as follows;- St. Mura’s primary school building fund, Buncrana: The East Inishowen Special Needs, Moville: Cashel-Na-Cor Resource Centre, Buncrana: The Scoil Iosigan learning Disabilities Dept, Buncrana: The Inishowen Womens’ Outreach, Carndonagh.
Our President John Joe McGee and Chairman Danny Doherty both gave their well rehearsed orations which included their interpretation of the benefit of the game of draughts, the promotion of the game among the present day youth and the importance of these social functions. They both thanked everyone concerned including the Hotel Staff and manager Mr. Billy Tye for their display of food, drink and sundries.
The large crowd present showed all the signs of an enjoyable event through their participation in the comfortable and friendly surroundings of “The Lake of Shadows” Hotel.
