Dear Mr Smith,
Mac Banks informed me that Leo Levitt has passed away. Mac's email is below for more details.
I cannot access the ACF Forum and hope you can say this on my behalf:
“I was saddened to hear of the passing of Leo Levitt. I met him in 1973 at the international match and again when I played him in 1983 at Petal, Mississippi. I met him for the last time in England at the international match. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Lindus Edwards."
Please let me know when you receive this email.
Best wishes,
Lindus Edwards.

It was Leo Levitt whom Marion Tinsley turned to for preparation for the 2-move WCM against Newell Banks that Tinsley won in 1952. Leo Levitt went 1-1-22 with Derek Olbury in the 1976 GAYP WCM, but had to withdraw instead of a play-off leaving Oldbury the GAYP World Champion. Leo Levitt joins Richard Jordan, and Samuel Gonotsky, with impressive individual and team victories in international matches. R.I.P Leo Levitt (1931-2016), checkerist and world class gentleman.

I visited Leo a few years back (I live nearby) to offer scanning his books and correspondence, his wife already passed and he looked upset and did not want to hear, he wanted me to start sparring with him again.
He was a great player, with an incredibly sharp mind, always surprised us with an unorthodox move that cut the position to pieces.

One more American Checkers icon disappear and list of ACF grandmasters get smaller.

It's a great and unrecoverable loss for our small fraternity.

He joined with majority where we all will be some day when time comes up.

I am playing checkers, not chess.
