Cable IP's do not tend to change often but DSL tends to change IP's everytime the modem is unplugged and plugged back in.

If someone is tethering their cell phone to a computer to get internet. That IP will change every time you re-tether the connection.

There has to be another way to handle this, that is more reliable or at least more difficult to cheat.

Look at the userbase we're talking about and look at the type of contest we're talking about. I believe the voters to be honest people and no significant prizes are being awarded. In short there is no incentive to cheat.
Without forcing a login there is no reasonable way to avoid potential issues.
The other often used option is to tie a vote to a cookie, but thats even less reliable than an IP address in my opinion.
If the contests gets bigger and prizes are offered, logins may have to be an option. Right now I think we should just enjoy the increased interest in problems/composing.

And Irma, my hope is that you would not be seeing the vote option right now. I switched your duplicate vote to say "I've Already Voted", which should last until your IP changes again.

As long as we don't tie votes received to Kurnik rating, I don't think we'll see any willful abuse of the system. Nobody but Bill knows who submitted each problem, and so far none of the problems have been titled "Vote Ron Paul."

The voting on Contest #4 is about half over, and it appears we have a landslide on our hands. If you haven't voted yet, why don't you go ahead and vote just to see if you are on the runaway bandwagon.

Frankly. I selected the five entries thinking they were relatively equal. The impending surprise results call for some reassessment after the polls close midnight May 27.

Ahoy!

There are only nine (9) more days until the polls close on Contest #4.

It looks like the record for number of voters in a problem composing contest will not be broken this time.

Would anyone who voted in any of the earlier contests, but not in this one, please drop me a clue as to why not this time?

I would appreciate feedback, in case improvements are possible.

Thanks,

This is the last weekend for voting in Contest #4.

If you haven't voted yet, please do. We need to break that tie for second place.

The GO TO CONTEST button is on the cover page.
