The National GAYP Tournament in Dublin, Ohio is now complete. I congratulate the division winners Ron King, Albert Tucker, and Anthony Tramontano, and also Ryan Pronk and Trey Stanley for the weekend youth tournament. It was good to see many checker friends that I had not met before, or had not seen in a while. It was also nice to see Karl Albrecht back in action. We had a very strong Master class, with many surprises in the final results.
Dublin is indeed a wonderful community. We were treated to a fine playing room (for free!) in a beautiful facility. Bottled water and soft drinks were provided daily. I was very pleased with the venue, and the weather was great all week. I understand those players without cars had to make arrangements to restaurants, hotels, and the airport. It's hard to find a location where everything is perfect for every single player. These are factors we will take into account when comparing future National Tournament bids. Perhaps some communities will start to consider organizing a bid for 2006 National?
I acknowledge Alex Moiseyev and Alan Millhone for assisting with this venue, Don Brattin for his fine job as referee, Francesco La Rocca for the daily updates, and Clayton Nash for organizing the "Arthur Niederhoffer ACF Youth" event. Many thanks go to Kim Willis and Victor Niederhoffer for making the youth Tournament a reality. Lastly, my thanks go out to everyone who traveled to Ohio to attend the tournament.
